 All-in-one Body Pattern

This FREE Rag doll pattern needs printing off to fill an  A4 sized piece of paper.
A seam allowance of ¼"
(0.6mm) may be added.
Although you can make it any size you wish.

I made the leg shorter by ½"
(13mm) to fit onto my scanner,
so you will need to extend it on your template.

The template should be applied on doubled fabric against the fabric fold.

Sewing the Body

Instructions for Making Up

1. A seam allowance of ¼" (0.6mm) should be added. See instructions for freezer paper templates. **I made the leg shorter by ½" (13mm) to fit onto my scanner, so do extend it on your template if you wish.**

2. The template should be applied on doubled fabric against the fabric fold.

3. Depending on the template method you use, with right sides (RS) of fabric together, machine-sew around sewing line of the body outline, leaving a gap for turning (as indicated on the pattern).

4. Take especial care when sewing around the curves of the ankles, fingers, neck, shoulders and head.  Use two horizontal stitches across the top of the crotch area.

5. Clip around the shapes, (especially around the curved areas) without cutting into the stitches. This provides the sewn fabric with greater flexibility required for turning & stuffing. But don't overdo it or you will weaken vulnerable areas

6. Turn the pieces right sides out, carefully teasing out awkward points and corners with the blunt end of a crochet hook or quick un-pick.  Or, you may wish to use your turning tool if you have one.

 7.  Start by stuffing the legs firmly but not too tightly. Once you have reached ¼ inch (0.6cm) from the top, machine sew across the legs to give them some flexibility and to allow the doll to sit down.

8. Stuff the thumbs by wrapping small amounts of polyester stuffing around the crochet hook or use your stuffing fork. When each arm is stuffed, you may wish to sew across the ‘armpit’ to allow the arm some movement.

9. Continue stuffing the head and body firmly but not too tightly. Finish by hand sewing up the open side of the doll with a neat slipstitch.

10. You are now ready to add the facial features.
