One of a Kind Commissions

She represents a milestone in my cloth dollmaking development and whilst she is 'proportionally challenged', she has character and demonstrated to me what I could and would achieve later.

Belly Dancer

I was inspired to create a belly dancer doll all dressed in gold in time for Easter 2003. This was my own first really complicated design and I realise now that I still needed to learn a few things about proportion and scale and firm stuffing!

I used a few new techniques including using felting needles for her (Australian) mohair, crystal lacquer over her eyes, lips and nails. I also defined her toes and wired her fingers. Her skirt is gold silk organza trimmed with ribbon. Her face and body is needle sculpted.
