Self Portrait Figure

When I was studying for a Foundation Degree Graphic Design course we were given a project entitled 'My World: My View'.
One of the things that had shaped my world were my cloth figure creations and what better doll to convey this theme than a 'self-portrait' doll for my 3D illustration of this project.

In the limited time available I came up with this mini-me. Made more as a caricature than an accurately proportioned figure.

It was initially quite spooky to catch a glimpse of this mini me sitting in our living room, though now we have grown accustomed to her. My husband admits it is 'uncannily like me', too!

I have also written about the making of this doll for an article in Doll Magazine.

I took photographs of the cloth figure and added them to my magazine page with scanned in images of significantly personal things.

I made the mini-me a mortar board. She also has a laptop with my website on it, a mobile phone and a Filofax in her bag with her degree certificates!

Amongst the things that the mini-me is thinking about is a wall hanging of my dear departed and much beloved cat (Dill), my website, a copy of my very first published article and my first ever Valentines cards- ah!

Whilst intensely personal, there were some aspects of my life that although had equal significance I naturally chose to keep private.

The presentation of the magazine page isn't quite how I had designed it. I learned the hard way what happens when you work 'goes to print' and the changes that computer software defaults can impose on all your hard work!
